The Glee Project: 110 “Glee-ality”

Season 1 Episode 10
Airdate: August 21, 2011

Glee Project 10

The four remaining jerk-offs enter the playpen and see that their assignment is “Don’t Stop Believin'” the classic Journey song that was featured on the very first episode of Glee. Of course the kids are very excited.

“How do you not think Glee when you’re singing this song?” Lindsay asks. Um…because you think of Journey because you’re a normal person? Let’s get the facts straight here people: Glee did not make “Don’t Stop Believin'”. “Don’t Stop Believin'” MADE Glee!

The kids feel the pressure, especially Damian, because he knows how much Ryan Murphy hates him, but Samuel puts it in perspective when he says that the producers are looking for “Not who’s good, who’s Glee.” Way to get in a burn! That sums up The Glee Project alright.

The guest judge is going to be Ryan Murphy itself. “Oh for God sake,” Damian says to us in confessional. I was saying the same thing. And what is the deal with the skull print on the back of Ryan Murphy’s shirt?

Glee Project 10

The kids start singing the song, but then Ryan interrupts them and brings out all the former contestants to help them out. It’s a GP Reunion!

Cameron tells us that he was reluctant to come back after he quit, but states, “This show has made me into a performer and I owe everything to it.” Huh? It has and he does? Ellis says she is of course jealous but also happy for the four still in the game. I’m pretty certain their contracts said they all had to return for the final episode and pretend to be happy about it.

Anyway, with the losers’ assistance at harmony, the song goes well, but no one is declared a winner.

The final challenge is announced. “We’re taking all twelve of you to the top of a 35 floor skyscraper in downtown LA,” Robert tells them, “to perform Pink’s ‘Raise Your Glass’.” So it will be like the Beatles in Let It Be only lame.

Glee Project 10

“I’m so excited!” yells Zach when he sees that all of the contestants have returned for today’s rehearsal. “I missed you. I missed all of you.” Obviously, he is lying. Ryan must have a had a talk with him about his attitude.

Glee Project 10

Onto the recording. The four remaining contestants record their bits individually, and then the losers are brought into to add their fifth through twelfth best effort. Nikki can barely tolerate Lindsay in the room, but is better with the other three.

Glee Project 10

The video is not just on the roof of a skyscraper, but on a helipad on the roof of a skyscraper. Earlier, Alex said he was scared someone might push him off the building. They would be justified in doing so.

Glee Project 10

Assisting Robert, Zach, Ian and Ryan Murphy (who is mentally challenged) in judging the final four will be Nikki, the music video director guy, several former Glee guest judges, and the losers.

Glee Project 10

Lindsay is up first. Each of the kids got to choose the song they would sing, and Lindsay went with some musical number or something. What’s funny about this–and you really must watch it again if you missed it–is that when Lindsay walks on stage and when she is done singing, everyone applauds her–except Nikki. Ha! That’s awesome! And Nikki totally cheered for the two boys and Alex.

Glee Project 10

I don’t know what song Damian sings. I just assume it’s a Frank Sinatra song.

Glee Project 10

Samuel brings out the guitar and sings “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. Samuel tried to act all deep when he announced his song choice, but come, he totally got the idea from the White Stripes.

Glee Project 10

Alex knows he has to really impress Ryan, so he walks on stage in women’s clothing. It’s what has kept him on the show this long. Alex sings a song from Dreamgirls, a movie I have never seen because I don’t care for ethnic cinema, but it is a good performance.

Glee Project 10

Now it’s down to whatever Ryan Murphy decides after he stares into his cup of yogurt.

Samuel is the winner! He will guest star in a seven episode arc of Glee.

Winner

Good job Sammy!

But wait…

Damian is also the winner and will be in seven episodes!

Alex and Lindsay will each appear in two episodes.

Winner

Congratulations! You’re all winners! And Season 3 is going to suck.

At least this contest is finally over. I’m going to leave you with this .gif I saw on Tumblr, which explains The Glee Project better than I ever could:
